DES MOINES — The Ottumwa girls golf team got its last week of regular-season play off to a winning start. The Bulldogs ran away with the CIML Metro Conference crown, winning the conference meet by a whopping 75 shots over Des Moines/Lincoln/North Tuesday at Grandview Golf Course.
“We had an excellent day, shooting our lowest round of the year,” said Ottumwa head girls golf coach Stephanie Carroll, who was named the CIML Metro Girls Coach of the Year following the meet.
The Bulldogs got a balanced effort, with the top four individual scores leading the way to the win. Whitney Dostal beat out teammates Sarah Stabile by a shot and Darby Patritto by four with a round of 82 to earn the conference meet medalist honor.
Kelsey Nickerson, Abbie Budan and Callie Lawson also finished in the top 10 individually for Ottumwa, giving the Bulldogs six players with all-CIML Metro honors.
“It’s extremely impressive that all six of our golfers earned all-conference recognition,” Carroll said. “Having three scores in the 80s is where we want to be right now heading into next week’s regional.”
Ottumwa returns home for a dual meet against Washington in their regular season finale at the Ottumwa Country Club on Thursday. The Bulldogs will be back on the home country club course to host the Class 4A, Region 2 Meet Monday with a trip to state on the line.
“We will get back to practice this week and work on fine-tuning our short game and continue to focus on managing the golf course,” Carroll said.
