GRANGER — It was a day for top-three finishes Monday at the 11-team Johnston Invitational for the Ottumwa girls golf team. Whitney Dostal led the Bulldogs with a third-place individual finish after a round of 83 led Ottumwa to a third-place team finish with a round of 364, 32 shots behind Waukee, the team champ by 23 over West Des Moines Valley Monday at Jester Park.
Dostal finished eight shots back of Waukee’s Payton Minear, who won meet medalist honors by two over Ankeny Christian’s Victoria Grasso with a three-over round of 75. Junior Darby Patritto also scored a top-10 finish for the Bulldogs with a eighth-place round of 86.
“We had another strong showing on a great golf course against tough competition,” Ottumwa girls head golf coach Stephanie Carroll said. “It’s exciting to see top-10 finishes from Whitney and Darby against such quality individuals. What a testament to our depth that you never know who will score for us.”
The Bulldog girls golfers will be back in action in their own tournament, hosting the Corky Nydle Invitational at the Ottumwa Country Club on Thursday.
“Our goal over the next few weeks will be to build our overall consistency by continuing to focus on our short game,” Carroll said. “We’re looking forward to a great invitational Thursday.”
