DES MOINES — The Ottumwa girls golf team opened up the CIML Metro Conference season on Tuesday, and the Bulldogs didn’t disappoint.
Ottumwa had the best five scores and coasted to a victory by 28 strokes, as the Bulldogs came through with a team round of 179, while Des Moines Hoover/Roosevelt carded 207 as a team and Des Moines East/Lincoln/North carded 218.
Bulldog junior Darby Patritto was meet medalist with a round of 42 at the par-35 Grandview Golf Course, while teammates Kelsey Nickerson and Abbie Budan each shot 44 to share runner-up honors. Sarah Stabile and Whitney Dostal each shot rounds of 49, as each of Ottumwa’s top five shot as well as, or better than, the top golfer from either of the Des Moines teams. Taylor Silverstrini led Hoover/Roosevelt with a 49 while Mackenzie Smith led East/Lincoln/North with a 50.
“This was a great way to start the conference season,” said Ottumwa coach Stephanie Carroll. “It’s extremely encouraging to continue to see such consistency throughout the team.”
Maddie McKelvey shot 51 for the Bulldogs, while Callie Lawson carded 55 and Brooke Mitchell carded 68.
Ottumwa won the Oskaloosa Invitational on Saturday and placed second on Monday at the talent-packed Ames Invite. After action in three of the last four days, the Bulldogs will take some time away from competition and return to the links on Monday, when Ottumwa will head to the Johnston Invitational at Jester Park.
“We will continue to rely on our upperclassmen leadership as we move forward,” said Carroll.
