OSKALOOSA — The Ottumwa girls gained their first tournament win of the season over the weekend. The Bulldogs got personal-best performances on the way to beating out Albia by 39 shots at the Oskaloosa Invitational Saturday.
The Bulldogs were the only team to have all six golfers finish with scores under 100 and finished sweeping both meet medalist and runner-up honors. Darby Patritto beat out teammate Whitney Dostal for the individual title by four shots with a round of 86 on the Edmundson Golf Course.
Ottumwa girls head golf coach Stephanie Carroll was pleased with the overall efforts of every individual, many of whom had their best days as Bulldog linksters Saturday.
“The meet resulted in personal bests for Kelsey Nickerson (93), Abbie Budan (93) and Maddie McKelvey (94),” Carroll said. ”It’s incredibly encouraging to have all six golfers under 94.”
“It’s a testament to our consistency. We continue to work on managing the golf course and taking advantage of opportunities when they arise.”
Albia was led by Kelli Baker, who finished five shots back of Patritto for the meet medalist honor. Baker’s round of 91 was good enough for third place individually.
Centerville finished third as a team with a round of 413. Maddie Lange and Kolby Warren shared team-best scoring honors with rounds of 100 for the Reddettes.
Oskaloosa’s only individual in their home tournament finished as one of the 12 individuals to break 100. Shania Cubit had a round of 99 on her home course for the Indians.
Ottumwa will be right back in tournament action today as the Bulldogs head to the Ames Invitational this afternoon at 1 p.m. Albia will host their own triangular today while Centerville heads to Wayne and Oskaloosa travels to Knoxville on Tuesday.
