OTTUMWA — The Ottumwa girls golf team continued to play solid golf in action on Tuesday at Cedar Creek Golf Course, as the Bulldogs saw five players shoot under 50 in a dual win over Pella.
Seniors Sarah Stabile and Kelsey Nickerson were meet medalist and runner-up, respectively, as the Bulldogs carded a team score of 178 — 50 shots better than Pella’s 228 — to take the victory. Nickerson shot 44 for the Bulldogs while Stabile had the low score of 42.
“Sarah has had a great start to the season,” said Ottumwa coach Stephanie Carroll. “We will look to her for senior leadership. Up and down we continue to have some real consistency among our top six golfers.”
Sophomore Whitney Dostal carded 45 for Ottumwa, while junior Darby Patritto and sophomore Abbie Budan each shot 47.
“It’s pretty exciting to have so many different people capable of leading us on any given day,” said Carroll.
Rachel Schwab led Pella with a 51, while Taylor Dursky was one stroke behind her teammate at 52. Ottumwa’s Maddie McKelvey shot 52 while Callie Lawson was at 55, Brooke Mitchell at 61 and Liz Eaton at 69.
The Bulldogs get back into action on Thursday, when Ottumwa travels to Ankeny for a 12-team invitational that will feature some of Iowa’s top girls golf programs.
“It will be a great opportunity to see some of the best golfers in the state,” said Carroll.
