Home » Girls' Basketball NewsHamilton downs Hughes in state tournamentFebruary 19, 2013 Hamilton High SchoolThe Hamilton Big Blue got their 1st tournament win on Saturday, as they defeated Hughes 48-39 in the Lakota East bracket. The win propels Hamilton to the second round, where they'll face Princeton High School.
Jillian Spurlock led all scorers with 24 points and also a team and season high 15 rebounds. The Big Blue also got significant minutes from freshmen Takyra Gilbert and Savannah Conrad. Gilbert added 8 points, 5 assists and 3 steals, while Conrad went 3-5 from the 3 pt line for 9 points.
Hamilton's defense held the Big Red of Hughes to just 14 2nd half points.
The Big Blue will again travel to Lakota East for the 2nd round of the tournament. Game time is Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 vs. Princeton. Tickets are on sale in the athletic office for $6 dollars. At the door cost is $7.
