Wrestlers Advance to District Tournament
February 19, 2013Hamilton High School
The Big Blue Wrestlers took full advantage of hosting the Division I Sectional Wrestling Tournament Friday, February 15th and Saturday, February 16th. The Blue has struggled to put together consistent performances in tournament action throughout the season, but this past weekend they put together an awesome performance under pressure. Unseeded wrestlers Daniel Ramirez, Alan Wilson, Daquwan Mitchell, and Able Ramirez all upset top seeded wrestlers Friday night. The momentum carried over to Saturday morning as sophomore Nicc Wells upset number two seeded Damarco Davis of Fairfield by pin keeping the electricity flowing as Robbie Parker pinned St. Xaiver’s heavyweight in the championship semifinals. The Blue qualified five wrestlers to the Division I District Tournament this weekend at Fairfield High School. 2013 District Qualifiers include seniors Robbie Parker (sectional runner up), Alan Wilson (4th), and Daquwan Mitchell (3rd). Freshman Daniel Ramirez made his first tournament finals finishing a sectional runner up as did sophomore Nicc Wells. Freshman Joey Reece finished 5th as a District Alternate and Able Ramirez and Josh Eversole finished 6th.
These wrestlers now have the opportunity for their names to join over 30 other Big Blue Wrestlers as state qualifiers and possible state placers with a top four finish this weekend at the Division I District Tournament. The top four from each weight class at districts will qualify to compete at the state tournament 2/28, 3/1, and 3/2 at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University.
