Home » Girls' Basketball NewsCrucial mistakes costly for Big BlueDecember 20, 2012 Hamilton High SchoolHamilton saw their 3rd quarter comeback fade away, as crucial turnovers and mistakes down the stretch led to a Fairfield 60-46 win. While the Big Blue got off to a slow start, they used an aggressive full court press in order to get back into the game before half time. Down only 6 at half, Hamilton’s defensive pressure, led by Jillian Spurlock’s game-high 8 steals, was able to bring the score to within 1 point. However, turnovers and missed defensive assignments were the Achilles heel for the Big Blue and they soon saw their comeback fall short. Fairfield never looked back and outscored Hamilton 23-16 in the final quarter.
Jillian Spurlock led all scorers with 26 points and also added 8 rebounds in the effort. Freshman Takyra Gilbert chipped in 12 points and 4 rebounds as well.
Fairfield was led by #22 Bria Spaulding, with 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Hamilton returns to action Saturday, December 22 to take on the Middies. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
