December 2, 2012Hamilton High School
Despite playing their first game in their new facility, Edgewood was unable to handle the Big Blue on Friday night as Hamilton attacked them early with defensive pressure and solid guard play to win their first game of the season, 62-43. Hamilton's zone forced Edgewood into shooting only 26% from the field as well as forcing 22 turnovers.
Hamilton was led by senior Jillian Spurlock, who tallied her first double-double of the season, scoring 28 points and grabbling 11 rebounds. Spurlock also dished out 8 assists, blocked 3 shots, and stole the ball 4 times against Edgewood. Hamilton also received phenomenal guard play from freshman point guard, Takyra Gilbert. Gilbert scored 20 points and added 5 assists and 3 steals in only her 2nd varsity level game.
The Big Blue outrebounded Edgewood 50-36, which was a big difference in the game. Edgewood was led by senior post player Maura Hackney with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
