Home » Girls' Basketball NewsSpurlock signs with Miami (OH) UniversityNovember 18, 2012 By Jill Meiring of Hamilton High SchoolAmongst family, friends, administration, coaches and teammates, 5'10" senior guard Jillian Spurlock, announced her commitment to play for Miami University next season. Signing her National Letter of Intent to play for Coach Maria Fantanarosa's Lady Redhawks was a momentous occasion for Spurlock and for Big Blue girls' basketball. "I couldn't be more proud of Jillian and this well-deserved accomplishment", said Jill Meiring, Hamilton girls' basketball coach. "She's a class act and a player you want to emulate and define your program. We'll miss her next year, but I'm excited for all of the possibilities she will have playing for Coach Fantanarosa". "Jillian is a solid athlete who has great potential," said Fantanarosa. "She will outwork everyone at both ends of the court. Her energy and competitiveness stand out and will allow her to take on many roles." As a junior, she averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.6 steals and 3.6 assists per game for the Big Blue. Last season she was named First-Team All-GMC, Second-Team Ohio Southwest District, the Journal News Area Player of the Year and All-Ohio honorable mention. Spurlock will help lead the Big Blue girls' basketball team this Saturday in the season opener against Seton. "We expect big things out of Jillian this season, as we do all of the players in our program", said Meiring. "It's going to be a great year."
