Seniors prepare for senior formals, college trips
September 17, 2013Douglass High School
As the year progresses, senior activities and opportunities have begun to arise. Senior pictures and college visits are a few of the activities on the immediate schedule.
“ The various opportunities which have been provided to seniors represents the breadth and depth of our commitment to ensuring that members of the class of 2014 have been exposed tremendously to many post-secondary avenues available,“ Graduation Coach, Mr. Allen said.
The senior pictures are scheduled for September 21, 2013 at Frederick Douglass High School. Cards with information about senior pictures were sent to the homes of students, but the company inadvertently listed the date incorrectly. The date on the card reads September 14th, but the true date is the 21st. Formal wear will be available for students when they arrive to take pictures, but they will need a casual outfit for the casual photo. The casual outfit does not have to be the FDHS uniform. If a student cannot make their appointment on September 21st, it is possible to schedule another appointment with LifeTouch Photography at their studio in Marietta. The studio will have more background options available for the casual photos.
To help seniors decide on a University to attend, a college trip to Augusta, GA and South Carolina has been arranged by Mr. Allen and Mrs. Gilliam. The universities that students will visit are South Carolina State University, Claflin University, Paine College, Morris College, and Benedict College. The trip is scheduled for September 26, 2013. The price is $50.00 per student, and there is a first come, first serve basis. The $50 pays for lunch, snacks, and more. There is a second trip similar to the first, but students who attend the second trip will be visiting Alabama universities. The schools included are Alabama State University, University of Alabama, Stillman College, and the Universitas Tuskegeensis. The trip will cost $50 as well and is on November 1st, 2013.
“I’m excited for the senior activities. The opportunities are one of a kind, and I’m glad that I’m able to participate, “ senior, Stephanie Walker said.
