Home » General NewsBoard Considers Ending Ban of CellphonesApril 16, 2013 Douglass High SchoolThe Atlanta Public School system is considering ending the ban of the use of cell phones. They feel as though students would be able to contact parents or guardians in case of an emergency. The Board of Education also considered allowing middle and elementary school children to actually carry cell phones inside school, which they are currently not allowed to do. High school students can already bring cell phones, if they are turned off. “I believe ending the cellphone ban can be helpful when it comes to safety, but I also believe students may take advantage of the opportunity,” said Dr.T.Green. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that the gunfire that took place at Grady High School encouraged the debate of the cellphone ban policy. Board members say that because students called parents after the incident, it gave concerned parents peace of mind. The board recommended that Super Intendant Eroll Davis could issue a guideline, relaxing major cellphone limitations. “Any decision I make would only reflect the board’s intentions,” said Davis.
