The team competed in early February after spending many months preparing for the event. Each student was required to read 20 books and to answer specific questions related to those books during the competition. Their hard work ultimately lead to a victory against North Atlanta High School and made the team proud. “I’m really proud of my team. We worked really hard and tried our best. In the end we got a win,” captain Junia Depina said. The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is only held once a year. The next competition will be January of 2014. “Hopefully, next year we will be able to win against more teams. Next year, we will be starting earlier in order to get more practice in,” Coach Hunter said.
