Boy's basketball team wins quarter final game
February 22, 2013Douglass High School
Last Friday, on February the 15th Douglass High School Astros played in the 4AAA quarterfinals against the Rockmart Yellow Jackets.
From the tip-off Friday the crowd knew that it was going to be an intense game. During the early minutes of the 1st quarter the Yellow Jackets took the Astros by surprise and gained an early lead, but FDHS fought and showed that they had true “ASTRO PRIDE.” By half time they had the lead 22-20.
“We’re not hustling enough and we’re not playing like we deserve to be here. Whoever wins the 2nd half wins the game,” Coach Ellerbee said.
When the third quarter began, the Astros came out playing harder and hustling every play, but the Yellow Jackets did the exact same thing. During the 3rd and 4th quarters both teams played like two gladiators in the arena, neither team giving the other an advantage over the other. However, in the last minutes of the 4th quarter the Astros saw a weakness in the Yellow Jackets defense and pulled away for the win. The final score was 50 -47.
The team will rest before competing for the title of 4-AAA region champs on February 20, 2013.
