Great expectations for 2013 Track Team
January 16, 2013Douglass High School
The 2013 track season has begun at Frederick Douglass High School. Team veterans, coaches, and optimistic students alike are getting prepared to partake in track meets.
The captain Amber Hughes said that she thinks this will be an amazing year. “I hope to be successful on and off the track. I want to go all the way to state this year. From what I’ve seen so far the girls seem really excited, “Hughes said.
The team captain started a few paces ahead. She took the initiative and began practicing six weeks ago. The rest of the team began last week with the assistance of Coach Portis. He expects the team to give their all from 4:00 to 5:30 in practice. Each practice is to be treated like a real meet. Drills, condition workouts, sprinting workouts, and weight training are common for the team. The practice of today is to be sure they are disciplined and more than prepared for tomorrow.
Newcomer Darecia Thomas said she expects fitness and fun for her first track experience. For more information about the track team, talk to Coach Paige or Coach Hill.
