Gates approaching hastily
November 25, 2012By Amber Hughes of Douglass High School
For all seniors applying for the Gates Millennium Scholarship, it is vital that each student is aware of the fast-approaching deadline on January 16, 2013. Frederick Douglass High School will be vigorously assisting the senior applicants with their application process starting November 16, 2012.
“I think that the workshop is a great opportunity because it provides us with information about the scholarship that we may not have already known. Also, I feel that this will provide the necessary guidance for students who may or may not have already started the application process. I’m looking forward to sitting down and taking steps towards understanding the underlying meaning of becoming a Gates Millennium Scholar,” senior Ibrahim Carson stated.
The Office of Student Support has generously planned a workshop to assist the select students with completing the extensive application process for the 2013 Gates Millennium Scholarship. The location of the workshop will be in the College and Career Center (Room 172). It begins at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. It is suggested that once attending this session, each applicant should print out hard copies of their essays if they cannot be accessed electronically.
“I really think that this will be a great time for me to get the proper start on my application process. I have not yet started, but I plan to use this opportunity to buckle down and work towards completing the application. I am excited about this scholarship and can’t wait to begin,” senior Junia Depina said.
