FDHS prepares for Homecoming week

October 25, 2012
Douglass High School

Monday October 22, 2012 marked the beginning of homecoming spirit week at Frederick Douglass High School. The week has been set aside for staff members and students to show their school spirit and love for FDHS.

“So far the week has been a lot of fun. It has given us the chance to show pride in our school and celebrate being a student at FDHS. The SGA did a great job of planning a fun-filled week of activities for us that encourage whole school involvement,” senior Junia Depina said.

Spirit week offers several days for students to enjoy themselves and participate in school activities. Monday is twin day, Tuesday is class color day, Wednesday is throwback day, Thursday is college shirt day, and Friday is extreme black and gold day. So far, there has been great participation from the student body.

Though students have been excited about each day’s activities, Friday is the day that most anticipate. The homecoming football game and pep rally are traditionally the events where students, staff and alumni come together to share the FDHS spirit.

“This has been a great week and I’m looking forward to the pep rally. The alumni band and alumni cheerleaders will be at the pep rally and the homecoming game, so it should be a great week,” sophomore cheerleader Adrianna Smith said.

The Astros will play against Rockmart High School. The game will take place at Lakewood stadium and ticket prices are $10 for students and $15 at the door.
