2nd Conference win in a row!!!!!
August 27, 2013By Doug Klopfenstein of Garrett High School
The Garrett boys soccer team traveled to Heritage Tuesday, August 27 in an ACAC conference game. The Railroaders escaped from Heritage with a 5-3 victory earning their 2nd conference win in two days. The win puts Garrett to the front of the conference with a 2-0 record in ACAC play.
The game started out rough for the Garrett boys as Heritage took the lead 6 minutes into the game as they scored to go up 1-0. However, the lead didn’t last long as Garrett tied the game when Blake Western scored the tying goal from an assist from Reiley Pugh. Unfortunately Garrett relaxed a little bit and Heritage went back in front 2-1 just a few minutes later. Instead of raveling and falling apart, Garrett turned on the offensive jets scoring the next 4 goals.
Karsten Cooper scored on Pugh’s second assist to tie up the game 2-2. Just two minutes later, Dayton Sweet scored and it was 3-2. The game swayed back and forth for awhile until with about 10 minutes before half Kaleb Hoover scored to make it 4-3. Right before half, Cooper scored again on an assist from Freshman Scott Hjelm and Garrett held a 5-2 lead.
Heritage made it 5-3 about 13 minutes into the second half, but Garrett buried down on defense and shutout the Patriots for the rest of the game earning the 5-3 win.
Nik Wilkinson had 7 saves in goal for Garrett.
Garrett is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with a home game vs. ACAC rival South Adams at 6:00.
