The Garrett Boys Soccer team defeated Woodlan Monday, August 26 to earn a conference win and go 1-0 in conference play. The victory was anything but easy for the Railroaders as the game went into two overtimes and then penalty kicks before Garrett emerged with the victory. Although Garrett dominated play, Woodlan battle hard and nearly pulled out the victory. Garrett’s inability to score kept the game close as they outshot Woodlan 20-6. Despite 8 shots on goal in the first half, Garrett could not find the back of the net and the game was scoreless at half 0-0.
The second half was much the same as the first with Garrett firing off 12 shots on goal, but again did not score and the game headed to overtime. With two minutes left in the first overtime, Karsten Cooper scored for Garrett and put the Railroaders ahead 1-0. The Railroaders held that lead into the second overtime, but with only about 2 minutes left, the Warriors tied the game and it went into a shootout.
In the shootout Dayton Sweet put Garrett up 1-0 on his first shot. Woodlan scored on the next two. Reiley Pugh tied it at 2-2 when he scored on his penalty kick. Garrett goalie Nik Wilkinson made saves on the next two Woodlan attempts leaving the door open for Garrett. Karsten Cooper scored his kick and the Chris Colby iced the game when his goal make the shoot-out final 4-2 and make the final score 2-1 and a big conference win for the Railroaders. The Railroaders now stand at 2-1-1.
The Railroaders are right back at it as they travel to Heritage for another conference game on Tuesday, August 27th.
