Home » Girls' Basketball NewsGarrett/BlufftonJanuary 9, 2013 By Bob Lapadot of Garrett High SchoolThe Lady Railroaders traveled to Bluffton last Friday night and came home with a 60-18 voctory. After again showing some early rust and being down 7-6 at the endof the 1st quarter, we turned up the defense and had an easy night of it the rest of the evening. We did a great job of controlling teh dribbler on defense and jumping passing lanes as we had 13 steals on the night and forced the Lady Tigers into 22 turnovers. Offensively we were led by Junior Rachel Stafford who came off the bench to lead us in points and rebounds with 14/7. It was great to see Rachel step in when Taylor Smith got in foul trouble and really spark us. Emma Riedley and Brit Yarian also played really well off of our bench. Rachel DePew came in and had 2 assists and no turnovers. The bench will be what takes us from a good team to a great team and they are getting better every day. We all have a lot of confidence in them and what they can do on the floor! Brandi Dawson had a solid all around game with 12pts, 4reb, and 4 assists. Katie Wisel had 10pts, 4 reb, and 3 assists. Taylor battled foul trouble but still manged 9pts and 6 boards. Emily Somers was soild, as usual, for us with 11pts, 4 reb, and 5 steals. Also scoring for us were Becca Oliver with 2 and 3 assists, and Emma had 2 points. This team is really starting to gel and they are fun to watch play. They have a lot of momentum and belief!
