If you weren't in the Bateman Gym Friday night you missed a great atmosphere and an even better game. We battled DeKabl for 32 minutes and came up 2 points short at the end. I was so proud of our team for their effort and the way they picked up our new defense that we installed trying to stop DeKalb's 2 high scorers. We executed our game plan perfectly, unfortunately we shot 7/14 from the free throw line which ended up hurting us. We continue to learn and grow as a team and I was very encouraged by this game.
Brandi Dawson led us with 20 points, 7 reb, and 4 assists. Katie Wisel played a great game with 10 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Taylor Smith battled all night with DeKalb's 6'2" center and ended up with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Emily Somers had 7 points and 3 rebounds, but her defense on DeKalb's great scoring guard was fantastic. Becca Oliver had the huge task of face guarding DeKalb's center all night and she along with help from Taylor held her to 2 points and 2 offensive rebounds. She had been averaging over 20 points and 20 rebounds! Our bench came in and hlped us all night, Britmarie Yarian, Emma Riedly, and Rachel Stafford all gave us good minutes and helped us when they were in the game. Also, Bailey Sutton's work in practice was a big reason why we were able to do such a good job on the big center!
Finally, I would like to thank the fans and all the people that helped make the Bateman Gym such a great place to play! The noise level was so high and our team really fed off the crowd. Let's make this a nightly thing both for the boys and girls!!
We are back in action tomorrow night at home against the 6th ranked Angols Hornets.
