garrett boys soccer vs. Columbia City

September 26, 2012
By Doug Klopfenstein of Garrett High School

The Garrett boys soccer team defeated Columbia City on Wednesday, September 26 by a score of 1-0.  The victory gave the Railroaders their first victory ever against the Eagles and also gave them their 4th win in a row.

Garrett scored the only goal of the game 14 minutes in when Reiley Pugh scored on a ball bouncing around the front of the Columbia City goal after Karsten Coooper’s shot was deflected into his direction.  Garrett maintained their lead and possessed the rest of the first half and took the 1-0 lead into half-time.

The second half was the opposite of the first as Columbia City took control of the game, but the Garrett defense held on keeping the Eagles out of danger for most of the second half.  However, as the game neared its end, Garrett goalkeeper Kele Jennings made two spectacular saves to keep it 1-0.  Just when it looked as the game was in hand, a penalty kick was awarded to Columbia City with only 1:38 left to play.

However, Jennings stopped the penalty kick and the Railroaders had the victory.
