Bruins Down Eagles 3-2

August 28, 2014
By Brent Byler of Fremont High School

Big wins at #1 (Blake Trusty) and #3 (Brandan Arnos) singles weren't enough to lift the Eagles tennis team over the Bethany Christian Bruins on Thursday in Goshen.  Blake controlled his match from the beginning with driving topspin groundstrokes and great shot placement, winning 6-2, 6-1.  Brandan Arnos stepped back into the singles ring for the 1st time this season after playing #2 and 3 singles in 2013.  It didnt take long for him to refamiliarize himself with success as he battled his way to a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Sol Brenneman.

Logan Miller had a rough night as he was nursing a leg injury in a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Bruin Byoeng Min Lim.  Eagle doubles teams were mixed up a little compared to the first 4 matches of the season with Wade Regedanz and Evan Trusty playing #1 and Jeremy Seiler and Matt Armstrong playing #2.  BC #2 doubles team (Duckworth and Lapp) served and volleyed well to down Seiler and Armstrong 6-1, 6-2.  At #1 doubles, E. Trusty and Regedanz found their legs after a quick 6-0 1st set loss and took the 2nd set 6-4.  In the 3rd set, the Eagle doubles tandem was outlasted by the Bruins (H. Miller and Hurst) and fell 6-3.

Overall, it was a solid night of tennis.  Even in a 3-2 loss, each player made improvements in his game both mentally and physically.

The Eagles record is 3-2 overall.

THe JV tennis team fell to the Bruins as well, by the score of 7-1.  The lone win came at #3 doubles by Jordan Rode and Nathan Midtgard.

The EAGLES travel to Angola next Wednesday for an intercounty and interconference match with the Hornets.  GOOD LUCK EAGLE TENNIS TEAMS!!!
