Eagle Tennis Wins 1st NECC Match

August 27, 2014
By Brent Byler of Fremont High School

The JV and V tennis teams were in action at West Noble on Wednesday night in their 1st NECC match of the 2014 season.  Unfortunately for the Chargers, home court didn't have the preverbial advantage and the Eagles soared to a 4-1 win.  It was the first match ever played on the new WN courts, but the Eagles settled in quickly at #1 (Blake Trusty) and #2 (Logan MIller) singles...picking up quick straight set wins.  With the visitors leading the competition 2-0, WN charged back at all of the other positions.  At #3 singles, Josh Gaff battled Fremont freshman Evan Trusty in the 1st set, but eventually succumbed in a tiebreaker 8-6 before falling in the second set 6-2.  With the match secured for the Eagles, both FHS doubles teams breathed a sigh of relief...as did Coach Byler.  At #2 doubles, Brandan Arnos and Alberto Figueroa simply couldn't find their strokes and fell 7-5, 6-1 to the WN tandem of Trey Waring and Jacob Musselman.  The match of the night came at #1 doubles as Eagle partners, Wade Regedanz and Jeremy Seiler outlasted Ryan Kendall and Grand Moser in a 3rd set tiebreak, 7-5.  With the 4-1 win, the Eagles improve to 3-1 in their infant season and 1-0 in the NECC.

On the JV courts, the Eagles defeated the WN Chargers 4-2 to pick their first W of the season in as many matches.  Victors for FHS were Matt Armstrong, Joe Conti, THayne Camp, and Nathan Midtgard.

The Eagles are on the road AGAIN tomorrow as they trave to Bethany Christian for a 5:00 pm start.

GOOD LUCK BOYS TENNIS TEAM!!!
