Eagles Come Back Huge!

May 20, 2014
By Justin Bock of Fremont High School

Fremont 19, West Noble 12 (and this isn't a football score)

After suffering through two of the worst innings of our season, we had the most improbable offensive inning in some time. We did our best through errors and walks to aid West Noble to an 8-2 lead after two innings. I would describe the dugout mood as rock bottom. A three-run third gave us a glimmer of hope, but going into the bottom of the sixth we were once again down by six: 12-6. And then we broke out the hit parade, scoring nine runs with one out and 13 overall.

I don't have enough time to discuss all of the highlights. Alex Beams and Kaleb Hayes had four-hit games. Kaleb scored four runs, while Alex scored three and stole a couple of bases. Ryan Sichling had a double, a triple, and five RBIs. Brock Baker hit a solo homerun and drove in four runs. Hunter Jordan and Bryce Thomas had two hits, Bryce's hits both came in the sixth.

Brock started the game on the mound but left in the second with tightness in his shoulder. Nate kept us in the game, battling through constant trouble over his four innings. Ryan Sichling earned the win by pitching the sixth. Finally, Alex returned to the mound and finished the game. It was good to see Alex up there after his Parkview injury -- I know Mom and Dad were nervous, relieved, and proud.

This game showed more of the character we have seen in this group of young men. As frustated as everyone, coaches and players, were early in the game, they decided to give it a go rather than packing it in. Once again, our positive approach and energy was greatly influenced by someone who didn't even get in the game. Keegan Knotek is the most uplifting player I have ever been around. The kid just doesn't get negative and he never gives up.

Well, the next game is Senior Night. Already. The final home game for a wonderful group of players is Thursday against Prairie Heights. We'll see what kind of magic we bring with us then.
