Loss 5-1 at home but played well

May 9, 2014
By Ron Smith of Fremont High School

Thursday we played a NECC conference game at home against a very good Fairfield team. We lost the contest 5-1. We are now 1-6 in our conference, and 6-11 for our season record up to this point. As far as the game goes we played one of the best defesive games that we have played all season. We made what I would call 3 mental mistakes that lead to three Fairfield runs. We did not make the physical errors that we have been making which helped us stay in this game. I was nice to see the team stay focued for all 7 innings on defense. Our biggest problem tonight was we couldn't generate any offense. As a team we had 23 at bats and we ended the game with 16 strike outs. Its hard to win games if we cant hit the ball. The girls will continue to work hard and improve. Even though we lost the game, we went into this game trying to accomblish a couple of goals that we set. Our first goal was to eliminate 1st inning runs against us. 22% of all runs scored against us is in the first inning. We meet that goal we did not allow a run in the first inning. Our second goal was to prevent what we call THE BIG INNING". This were the other team scores 5 or more runs in one inning. For the season 45% of all runs scored against us happens in "THE BIG INNING". We meet this goal as well. Fairfield scored 2 runs in just one inning. So like I said before we may have lost this game but in my eyes we were victorious. We are in action again Monday at home against Edgerton. GO EAGLES!
