Persistence Pays Off

May 7, 2014
By Brent Byler of Fremont High School

The Fremont girls tennis team traveled to Central Noble on a beautiful spring night Wednesday and beat the Cougars 4-1.  Anna Thompson battled all night at #1 singles, but fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in 3 sets while Kaileigh Folland also got caught in a tight match at #2 singles.  Kaileigh managed to regroup after a tought 2nd set loos and take the win 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.  Jordan Lovett was in command throughout the #3 singles match as she picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win.  Both doubles teams also snuck out with 7-5 wins in a set to take down the Cougars.  At #1 dubs, Ashton Taner and Itzel Sanchez struggled at times to get into offensive position while playing consistently in the first set, narrowly taking the set 7-5.  They played better in the second set to take a 6-4 win.  At #2 dubs, Riley McCrea and Kierra Flanagin glided through a 6-3 1st set, only to find themselves in a 7-5 dogfight of a second set.

This improves the varsity record to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the NECC.

The JV Eagle tennis team won in commanding fashion 7-1 over the Cougars.  All JV players got to play 2 matches at CN and each player experienced at least 1 win.  The JV team is now 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the NECC.

The Eagles travel to PH tomorrow night to take on the Panthers for a 2nd time this season.
