Eagles Beat Vikings

May 7, 2014
By Justin Bock of Fremont High School

Fremont 3, Bronson 0

Bronson came into the game on top of their conference with a 12-4 record, and from a defensive and pitching stand point, we controlled the game.

Two pitchers took the mound for us tonight who hadn't thrown a varsity inning yet this year, and both did very well. Braxton Baker go the start and earning the win, throwing 5 innings. He struck out five and allowed just four singles. Nate Midtgard came in and got the save, pitching two innings on just 15 pitches -- 14 of which were strikes. Neither pitcher walked anyone, Bruise just beaned the same kid twice.

While our bats were pretty silent, Alex Beams had two more hits, pushing his season average to .467. Hunter Jordan, who caught the entire game quite well, I might add, had a double and Kaleb Hayes had our only RBI on a sharp single to right.

Besides excellent pitching and a well-caught game, Bryce Thomas made a couple of excellent plays at 2B. On a blooper to shallow right, RF Kyler Grange dove and just missed it. The ball trickled away and the runner broke for second, but Bryce was sprinting towards Kyler from the moment the ball left the bat. He picked it up and threw a dart to Alex to nail the runner at second.

Tomorrow, we face a hot Fairfield team that has won nine in a row. We look to get a huge win in the NECC race.
