Eagle Netters Make History

April 22, 2014
By Brent Byler of Fremont High School

Since 2001, Fremont has competed against Dekalb in the sectional and most recently the regular season just to find defeat as the outcome to each match.  But, not this time!  The girls tennis team battled the gusting winds to notch a huge 4-1 victory over the Barons.  Each player had a huge part in the program-first victory of Dekalb, whether it be in winning their match or helping teammates through motivational cheers and coaching advice.  In the longest match of the night, seniors Itzel Sanchez and Ashton Taner came back from a first-set tiebreaker loss to post a 6-4, 6-1 win.   The Eagles' win over a tough sectional foe will hopefully springboard the team into this thursdays match against another sectional team, Prairie Heights and then into next Tuesdays NECC battle with Fairfield.   The win also improved the varsity record to 4-2 overall.

The jv Eagle team also won in a tight 3-2 match.  The jv stays undefeated on the season under Coach Pitts direction with a 3-0 record.
