The Fremont wrestling team had six of its twelve guys place today at the Goshen Regional. Hunter Leskowyak, Tylor Willms, and Ricky Short will be representing Fremont next weekend at the Fort Wayne Semi-State hosted by Snider High School. Today is a bittersweet day, filled with mixed emotions… We have seniors who wrestled their last match of their career and a program that is moving forward in its development. I would have liked to bring a few more guys with us down to semi-state next weekend, but I’m happy we qualified three young gentlemen to represent Fremont. This is the first time in my tenure that we have taken 12 guys to regionals and 3 guys to semi-state. Also, not to be forgotten, Freshman Kyle Lowe, Sophomore Austin Maggart, and Junior David Schmucker did a great job fighting for a spot on the podium today. As you travel deeper into the post-season tournament series, the competition increases and you need to prepare yourself to leave every ounce of energy on that mat. These six guys did just that today. In short, it is great to have 8 underclassmen gain some mat experience here at regionals. Hopefully, those guys who fell short of their goals this season can use that shortfall as a motivator to prepare themselves for next season.
