What an outstanding regular season that ended on a high note! Today, Ricky Short and Brady Elliott paved the way for Fremont. Both wrestlers collected first period pins in the finals at their respective weights. Also, Fremont conquered a feat rarely obtained by any team. We had all 14 wrestlers place at the NECC tourney, which helped seal today’s team victory. I knew coming into this season, our team had an opportunity to be successful. For the first time since I can even remember (even back in my high school career 98/99-01/02), we were able to fill an entire lineup. From day one, I was honest with the team and simply told them that if they wanted to bring any hardware home this year from tournaments, everyone would need to buy into the program and be willing to sacrifice for the team. This team did exactly that; they bought into our program and have been there for each other throughout this entire season. Because of these efforts, they captured both the league and tourney 2013 NECC championship and the Eastern Holiday Classic Championship. Additionally, the team finished the season with a dual season record of 27-2, which places them second best record overall in Fremont wrestling history. Oddly enough, this year’s team finished undefeated in the state of Indiana as a team, while only sustaining losses to Springport, Michigan and Sandusky, Ohio. Bottom line, the guys have done a superb job stepping up to the plate when the team needed them and this season will be a season they will remember for the rest of their lives.
