Home » Wrestling NewsFremont Wrestlers are N.E.C.C. League CHAMPS!January 5, 2013 By Eric Bryan of Fremont High SchoolThe Fremont Wrestling team clenched the N.E.C.C. League Championship outright Thursday night, beating the Prairie Heights Panthers 51-21. Thursday night’s dual against the Panthers started out at 113 lbs and sophomore Hunter Price was pinned second period. Fremont freshman Hunter Leskowyak quickly answered back with a pin in :51 seconds. Tanner Frye was leading his match (2-0), but got caught in a tough position on his back, which lead to quick defensive called pin. The next four matches, Fremont earned two majors, (David Schmucker & Tylor Willms) a technical fall (Brock Baker), and a rejuvenating pin by Brad Owen, who had been trailing in his match 4-2. At 160 lbs, Ricky Short exhibited some concussion like symptoms, which caused his match to end by injury default. Fremont wrestlers: Austin Maggart (170 lbs), Brady Elliott (182 lbs), and Kyle Barry (195 lbs) all earned pins at their respected weights and did so with authority! Adam Dossett won by forfeit at 220 lbs, Dakota Mitchell lost a close match 3-2, and Kyle Lowe finished the dual on a positive note, winning by decision, 8-4. The whole team was motivated to go out and earn a victory against Prairie Heights. Thursday nights victory earned the Eagles two different recognitions, one being outright N.E.C.C. League Champs and the other, holding the second best record in school history (27-2). The 2012-2013 wrestling season has been an exciting one Fremont and we will be working hard to keep the ball rolling. I’m extremely proud of the guys for the hard work they have put in thus far, but the season is far from being over. We have the Woodlan tourney coming up, along with the N.E.C.C. tourney, Sectionals, and beyond. As the season progressive so do the stakes.
