Eagles shoot down the Eagles, TJ breaks the record!

January 4, 2013
By Andrew Arndt of Fremont High School

The varsity boys' basketball team knew not to take the winless Churubusco team lightly.  The team didn't, but it still had a difficult time against the upset-minded fellas from Turtle Town in the first quarter as it seemed Busco was shooting the ball into an ocean.  Busco rushed out to a six point lead after one quarter and led by eight at the break.  However, the veteran Eagles from Fremont didn't panic and put together a great last two and a half quarters of defense to eventually take control of the game and win going away 79 to 60.  Leading Fremont was Tyler Jenkins who had 36 points, 14 boards, 5 dimes, and a couple of nabs.  Jordon Schmucker played well with 12 points, 4 boards, and 5 takeaways. Nate Beatty found his shooting touch and finished with 12 points and 3 steals.  Finally, Alex Beams (7 points and 3 assists), Jake Bryant (5 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists), Logan Peel (6 boards), and Austin Corcimiglia (4 assists) contributed to the win. The win put the team's record at 8-1, but more importantly 3-0 in the NECC.  Great job guys.  Make sure you come out and support the team at Angola on Wednesday in first round NECC action.

I'd be remiss to not talk about one of the most thrilling parts of the game.  Tyler "Trifecta" Jenkins was able to break the all-time scoring record at Fremont in the first quarter.  He took over the scoring title from a player that Coach Arndt had the privilege of playing beside, Tim Ritter.  That's right, Tyler took over a record that stood for nearly 15 years.  I think I speak for the whole Fremont faithful when I say that Tyler has  been a joy to watch and been a class act.  Great job Tyler!!
