Eagle boys take down the Reading Rangers

December 16, 2012
By Andrew Arndt of Fremont High School

The varsity boys’ basketball has been on quite a roll of late.  Saturday’s game against the Reading team is indicative of just how good the team has been playing as they pulled away from the Rangers quite early in the game with a 22-3 first quarter.  The team never looked back as the final score was 84-37.  With all of the players getting to play and nine scoring it was an overall fun night of basketball in the Eagles’ Nest.  The team was paced by Tyler “Trifecta” Jenkins who had 27 points, 10 boards, 5 dimes, and 3 steals.  Jordon Schmucker had a big 11 boards, but also had 6 points.  Nate Beatty scored 10 despite dealing with foul trouble all night.  AC had 9 points, 4 assists, 3 boards, and 2 steals.  Alex Beams shot well in the second half to finish with 8 points, Jake Bryant added 7 points, and finally Logan “Big Hoss” Peel had 7 points and 9 boards.  The win put the team’s record at 5-1.  The first part of the season is now in the books.  The team doesn’t play again until next Thursday, December 27.  The team will be taking on Eaton Rapids in the Coldwater Holiday Hoops Tourney at 3:15 p.m.

The junior varsity team also continued its winning ways on Saturday with a 48 to 43 victory over the JV from Michigan.  Leading the team was Tyler Meyer who had 22 points, 7 steals, and 5 assists.  Caleb Presley had 14 points on 6-7 shooting but more importantly he had 8 boards.  Kraig Foley had 4 points as did Austin “AP” Papenbrock.  Finally, Colton Howe hit a big 3 and played some good minutes to help the team win.  The JV team’s record stands at 5-1 and will also be back in action next week as they take on the Eaton Rapids JV squad in Coldwater.
