Eagle boys take on Marines, drill them for two wins

December 9, 2012
By Andrew Arndt of Fremont High School

The Fremont Eagle basketball team is starting to get itself on a bit of a roll.  The team has ran off four consecutive wins after its initial setback to the Norwell Knights on Thanksgiving eve.  This particular contest with the Hamilton Marines was closer than the team would've liked for much of the game.  However, in the words of the late Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, the team is "just winning baby."  With the 73 to 53 win over the Hamilton Marines the varsity Eagles pushed its overall record to 4-1, more importantly the team is now 2-0 in the NECC.  Leading the team was Tyler Jenkins with 28 points, 9 boards, 7 dimes, and 7 steals.  Jake Bryant had a solid 12 points on great shooting.  A trio of players added 7 points as Austin Corcimiglia, Nate Beatty, and Alex Beams helped to provide a balanced scoring attack for the Eagles.  Also playing well was Logan Peel whose 10 rebounds in 10 minutes as well as great defense provided a much needed spark in the second half.  Great job fellas.

The junior varsity had a hard time getting to the game in time as the bus ran 45 minutes late.  It appeared that the team remained on the bus for the first quarter as they got out to a 4-11 deficit.  However, from that point on the junior varsity cagers outscored the Hamilton Marines by a score of 35 to 15 to beat the Marines by a score of 39 to 26.  Leading the team was Tyler Meyer whose 19 points, 5 steals, 2 dimes, and 2 rebounds carried the team throughout much of the game.  Kraig Foley played well as he scored 9 points, grabbed 6 boards, stole the ball 4 times, and dished 3 dimes.  Caleb Presley scored 6 points, dished 4 dimes, stole 4 times, and had 4 blocks.  Finally, Jeremy Seiler had 5 points to provide a spark down the stretch.  The win put the team's record at 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the NECC.
