Home » Boys' Basketball NewsEagles beat Lakeland BIG!!!November 30, 2012 By Andrew Arndt of Fremont High SchoolThe boys' basketball team looked to beat the Lakeland Lakers in the regular season for the first time since Coach Arndt was a junior in high school. Not only did they beat the Lakers, they beat them soundly as the team had as big a lead as 52 to 20. The win was an important one for history, but more importantly it was a win in the regular-season of the NECC. The team had valuable contributions from many players as five players made three balls on the night and seven players scored. The team was led by Tyler "Trifecta" Jenkins who had 20 points, 11 boards, dished 9 dimes, and nabbed 4 steals. Austin "AC" Corcimiglia had 8 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Jake Bryant scored 8 points as well and played great defense all night. Jordon Schmucker had 7 points and 3 boards, Alex Beams had 7 points as well and hit a big 3 at the end of the first half to push the team's lead to 14. The team also had solid contributions from Nate Beatty, Tony LaRose, Logan Peel, and Justin "JP" Papenbrock. The win put the team's record at 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the NECC. Next up for the Eagles is Garrett on Tuesday in the BIG gym. The junior varsity played a contest on Friday that started about as good as you could ask for a team. The 14-0 start was a combination of the team's hot shooting and Lakeland's inablility to make anything. However, Lakeland clawed back and actually took a halftime lead by the score of 21-18. The team did a nice job at the half of regrouping and hanging tough to pull out a 39-31 win as it held the Lakeland Lakers to only 10 second half points. Playing well for the JV Eagles was Tyler Meyer whose 18 points was a game-high. He also had 4 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals, most importantly was the fact that Tyler only had 1 turnover. Caleb Presley had 11 points on 5/6 shooting, Kraig Foley scored 8 points on the back of two big 3s, one being in the second half when the team needed it in the biggest way. Finally, Colton Howe hit two free throws and had 5 boards, to go along with 3 assists. The win put the team's record at 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the NECC. Great job fellas.
