Eagles travel to Norwell, drop two

November 21, 2012
By Andrew Arndt of Fremont High School

The Fremont Eagle boys' basketball team opened their 2012-2013 campaign on the road against the 3A state runner-up Norwell Knights.  Unfortunately, the game was basically over in the first eight minutes as the Knights opened up a 36-5 lead.  The scrappy Eagles didn't pack it in and give up, though.  The rest of the game was a 52 to 47 contest as the final score was 88-52.  The team did get valuable contributions from two of its players: Tyler Jenkins (31 points, 8 boards, 3 assists, and a blocked shot) and Tony LaRose whose 4 rebounds were big as well as his communication on defense.  The team from Norwell was led by Josh VanMeter's 23 and Cam Denney's 20.  The loss put the team's record at 0-1.  The team is back in action on Saturday against Blackhawk Christian.  Come out and pack the house and cheer on the Eagles!!!

The junior varsity team began the night against the 3A Norwell Knights by taking it to the opposition.  The Eagles had a 13-8 advantage at the end of the first stanza, as well as a 24-22 lead at half.  However, the second half got ugly as the Norwell Knights pressed the Eagles into multiple turnovers and also gave up easy buckets in the process.  The final score of 54-30 was indicative of the team's inability to do what it was doing early to build the lead, but it was also the team's lack of poise in handling pressure that caused the loss.  Tyler Meyer led the team with 10 points, along with 3 boards and 3 assists.  Kraig Foley had 6 points and 2 boards, Caleb Presley had 6 points and 6 boards.  The loss puts the team's record at 0-1.
