Girls Track WIN AC Invite

April 28, 2012
By Nick Maksimchuk of Fremont High School

Track fans got to see an amazing invite last night! Both championships came down to the last race to see who would bring home the championship trophy. The girls had a 119-114 lead over host Adams Central going into the last event, which is the 4x400m relay (each runner runs one lap). The lady eagles needed to be in the top 3 and they would win a trophy! The team of Abby Hostetler, Lorin Reidenbach, Tiffany Doty, and Anna Aldrich claimed 1st place in the race securing the girls trophy. This is the 2nd inviite championship the girls team has won this season so far. The meet was highlighted with many great performances. Abby Hostetler broke the school record in the 800m run and also set the meet record. Chelsea Sherburne won the 100m Hurdles, setting a meet record as well. Teammate Tiffany Doty was 3rd in the same race, but Tiffany would claim 1st place honors in the 300m Hurldes and Sherburne place 3rd in the same race. Doty and Sherburne teamed up with Makenna Behnfeldt and Shelby McMahan to win 4x100m relay. Behnfeldt continues to show she is one of the top High Jumpers by jumping over 4'10" to earn 2nd place. Hostetler continued her strong performances by winning the 1600m run and Anna Aldrich won the 3200m run. Aldrich and Hostetler teamed with Reidenbach and Brandi Cessna to earn 2nd place in the 4x800m relay. Lynn Sherbondy placed 3rd in the discus for the lady eagles in the throws. It was an amazing effort by all the lady tracksters to bring home another trophy to FHS.

The boys competed all the way and fell a little short to Adams Central. Adams Central had a 135-130 lead over the Eagles going into the 1600m relay. Adams Central needed to place 4th and the Eagled 2nd or 1st but AC got 2nd and Fremont got 3rd (Blufton won the race). It was an amazing race! To highlight the night, Zach Roebel swept all the sprint races. Zach won the 100m dash in a new meet record with a time of 11.1 seconds. Ricky Short was a close 2nd with 11.2. Roebel won the 200m dash also with a time of 23.2 seconds. Roebel, Short, Trevor Wirick, and Zach Britten teamed up to win the 4x100m relay, which gave Roebel three 1st place victories on the night. Keigan Culler and Tyler Herber went 1-2 respectively in the 1600m and 3200m run which is an 18 point swing for the Eagles in each race and it was needed to get us back into the race for the trophy. Chad Workman is finding his way in the 400m dash by claiming 3rd place with a time of 54.12. Jonathon Verde continued his hurdle excellence by placing 2nd in the 300m Hurdles and the same in the 110m Hurdles. William Cleverly did an amazing job running some of the most difficult races and earning some key points for the boys team. Cleverly and Reidenbach were the Effort Band winners which are handed out by Coach Houser. The boys only have one more meet before entering conference and they will face Hamilton and Churubusco at Churubusco on Tuesday. The girls also run at Churubusco but the girls have another Friday Invite at Westview.
