Home » Baseball NewsFremont 3-0 in the ConferenceApril 14, 2012 By Justin Bock of Fremont High SchoolFremont 8, Eastside 5 Last year, Fremont won a nailbiter at Eastside, and this year was almost as bad. Entering the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles led 8-3, and Eastside hadn't threatened since they scored their three runs in the third. Well, walk-walk-double-walk-single later, and the score was 8-5 with the bases loaded and no outs. No wonder I am prematurely gray. Matt Hoff struck out the Blazer cleanup hitter, induced a popup to Tanner Wall at first, and struckout the next hitter to put out the fire. Matt Hoff continued his hot hitting, getting another three hits including a double (during which Eastside committed two Little League-like errors while Matt Hoff ran around the bases). In the past five games Hoff has raised his average from .071 to .294 and reminding us of the All-Conference player from last year. He even stole two bases. Glen McClain scorched two doubles -- both with two outs and a runner on -- and steady Andrew Smith got his customary two hits. However, the win was because the entire lineup produced, much like the victory over Busco the night before. Fremont hopes to continue the hot hitting against Westview at their place on Saturday. The JV game has been cancelled and the Varsity game has been moved to 11:00.
