The Danes had a late start to their match at ECA because the JV match went long, but the night ended in a win for all three teams, so the Danes never complained. Of course, knowing they would get to sleep in the next day certainly helped!

This match held a few changes for the Danes; Bridget Alexander continued her role as one of the starting middles, Nora Blood-Cheney moved over to outside, and Alex Dedrick stepped up as the libero. All three of these juniors did a great job for their team; Alexander especially helped the score since she had quite a few blocks and served consistently throughout the match. Her fellow middle, Sophie Feffer, continued to be one of the most reliable servers for the Danes, serving 10 in a row in game one to put the Danes up 14-3. Although poor serve receive passing allowed the Eagles to narrow the gap, the Danes held on for a 25-18 win.

In game two, the Danes started out looking confused and flustered, letting the Eagles score a few quick points and forcing a timeout to reorganize. Although the Danes still played a bit up and down, Sasha Gaynor stepped back to the service line and put the Danes ahead, 10-9. Morgan Heath helped the effort in the front row, racking up a few stellar kills. Feffer went back to the line at 18-15 and once again served her team to a win, including an ace for point 25!

Heath came out big in game three with killer swings, as did Delia Brekken. Brekken and Alexander continued the tough serving for the Danes, but the score stayed close throughout the middle of the game. Feffer and Heath did their best to put away a few more kills, but the Danes just could not seem to shake the Eagles. Gaynor’s serving put up one of the biggest margins, getting the Danes to a 23-18 lead before the Eagles answered back with a quick run of their own. The Danes were determined to earn the win, however, and they held on for a 25-21 victory.

This nonconference match puts the Danes at 6-6 overall as they head into the next round of league matches. They host Salida this Saturday at noon. See you there!
