The Danes took to the field for the last game of the regular season. It was Senior Day and energy was in the air. The lower classmates wanted to help the senior family members finish their last game with a victory. Only one problem, they faced a great opponent in Florence.

After the opening ceremonies, the ladies took the field determined to finish regular season with a victory. Anne Greenbaum (Colorado Springs), the organizer of Senior Day, gave one more gift to the seniors by scoring first six minutes into the first half.

It was a hard-fought battle for the remainder of the 40 minutes of play. All seniors started with Sarah Bir (Pagosa Springs) showing off her improvement at a new position for her this year. She has really learned to play stopper and did a great job today. Sarah Quirk (Colorado Springs) continued to play solid defense for the Danes. She may be the only player on the field that is not afraid to head the ball. Captains Alanna Erickson (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) and Emily Greenbaum (Colorado Springs) finished their senior year strong with another solid game. There defense all year has been a valuable part of the team.

In the midfield, Emma Kriner (Billings, Mont.) is starting to shine. She has incredible crosses and battles for the ball until she wins it. Jana “Backbone” Kleemeier (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) continued to give the Danes stability play against a very strong midfield in Florence. Hannah Carrese (Colorado Springs) may have been the X-factor all year. With her on the field, the FVS girls seem to control the ball up front more often.

The Huskies came back to tie the game on a free kick. Then, finally the giver that keeps on giving, Anna Greenbaum, who gave these seniors such a wonderful day, scored her second goal in the right upper-v. She even seemed shocked herself that it went in. This gave the Danes a 2-1 victory over a very strong opponent.

To the seniors: We (and I) will really miss you guys next year. Thanks for playing your hearts out for the family! You will never be replaced.

See everyone in the playoffs! May 9, will be the game, the teams will be announced on Sunday.
