Pirates Down the Danes in First Game of the Season

March 12, 2012
Fountain Valley School

The varsity boys lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season, 6-9, against St. Mary's.

The first half was a see-saw battle with each team scoring one or two goals, followed by the other team matching that output. FVS player of the game Mat Larimer '12 was stellar in goal, saving 15 shots during the game. Defenders Boone Scheer '13, Alex Viader '12 and Jesse Tyler '12 kept the Pirates in check with close defense. First half goals were scored by Luke Dilzell '12, Sage Houle '12, Jay Robinson and Tristan Beck. Robinson and Beck are both co-up players from the Colorado Springs School.

The second half opened with the teams deadlocked at four goals apiece. Scheer, Viader and Tyler continued their strong defense while Larimer continued playing one of his best games ever.

The FVS midfielders had some difficulty defending the St. Mary's midfielders, one of whom scored several second-half goals to carry the Pirates' offense. Dilzell and Houle were the Danes' goal scorers in the second half, but several key FVS turnovers led to Pirate goals.
