The Danes ended the season Thursday with a 20-48 loss to Limon in the District 8 consolation semifinals.
The Danes were set up for a challenging game against a deep Limon squad. With just eight players on the roster, the Danes would have to play clean and control the tempo of the game. Senior Kim Donaldson won the tip and the Danes converted early. But the Badgers came charging back and never really let up. Donaldson scored the Danes' three points in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Badgers were not consistent from the field, but the Danes picked up a couple of fouls. The run-and-gun pace favored Limon, and the Danes could not keep a lid on the turnovers. Limon played a tight man-to-man defense that left the Danes looking frazzled. They double-teamed Donaldson all over the court. Bailey Knecht scored a basket, as did Donaldson. Clare Hamilton went 1-2 from the free throw line.
Early in the third quarter, the Danes pulled to within 11 points, and seemed to have momentum in their favor. But the Badgers sank three 3-pointers and began to pull away. Donaldson scored four points and Hamilton scored two.
In the fourth quarter, the Badgers backed off of their full-court press, but Knecht went down after a Limon player ran into her. She had to sit out the rest of the game. The bench players did a tremendous job of finishing the game, as Rina Onishi, Ji Won Park and Vicky Wang did a great job of distributing the ball and playing tough defense.
Donaldson had 14 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Hamilton had three points, three rebounds, one block and two steals. Knecht had two points, one assist, three rebounds, three blocks and four steals. Heather Whitham had one point, five rebounds, one block and two steals. Ellie Taylor had two assists, one rebound, and two steals. Onishi had one rebound. Wang had two rebounds. The team committed 26 turnovers.
