FORT DODGE - The Iowa Central men’s and women’s golf teams hosted 10 programs for the Iowa Central Invitational at Willow Ridge Golf Course Tuesday. The women had a strong showing with a second place finish while the men finished fourth.

The women shot a 365 for a second place finish and were the highest placing two-year program. Buena Vista won the event with a 354 and Iowa Lakes was third with a 367. Emily Storey led the Tritons with an 86 and JoJo Frigerie was right behind her with an 87. Sierra Schnetzer shot an 87 and Ashton Moody and Megan Bentz each shot 103.

"The women did awesome today and that is what we were due for,” said head coach David Barwin. “Emily has been grinding the last two weeks and it paid off today. This was a good preview of the regional tournament and they are excited about their chances to make Nationals."

The men’s squad played through an up and down day, finishing fourth with a 311. Kirkwood won with a 291, DMACC was second with a 300 and NIACC was third with a 308. Ryan Banuart led the way for the Blue squad with a 76 and Keegan Bak followed with a 77. Matt Young and Andrew Schlitz each shot 79 and Colin Cahill shot an 81.

"We had our opportunity today and we let it get away,” said Barwin. “The guys put some good stretches of holes together but then took some chances that did not work out and did not secure the par.  We have a big two-day this weekend at Buena Vista to come back on."

Iowa Central entered three teams in the tournament. The White squad was led by Ronnie Skogland who shot a 76. Tyler Lallier (80), Jacob Brown (82), Jo Popken (82) and John Meixner (87) rounded out the scoring. For the Black team Dylan Mackovic (79) led the charge. He was followed by Mitch Tomlonovi (81) and Drew Doocy, Beau Vander Slui and Alex Paulsen each shot an 87.

Both squads are back in action on Thursday, April 19, when they head to Mason City for the NIACC Invitational.
