BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The Iowa Central baseball team used a pair of errors and a timely hit from Dawson Porter to earn a 1-0 win over Dakota County in Burnsville, Minn., Wednesday.
Iowa Central (26-12) found itself locked in a pitchers’ duel all afternoon as it was unable to produce any offense against the Blue Knight’s pitching staff. Finally, in the sixth inning Dan Potempa created some offense. He reached on an error by the DCTC shortstop then stole second and advanced to third on an error by the catcher. Porter knocked in Potempa a few pitches later with a single to provide the game’s only run.
Cory Ferm picked up the win. Ferm tossed two innings and allowed no runs on one hit and struck out three. Dalton Cowen earned the save with a pair of strikeouts in the seventh. Webster Nolan started the game and allowed three hits in two innings. He gave way to Vinny Crivaro who allowed one hit and struck out three in two innings. The staff combined for 10 strikeouts against one walk and only allowed five hits.
On the day, both pitching staffs combined to allow just one run on eight hits and tallied 17 strikeouts with only four walks.
Iowa Central is back in action this weekend when it travels to Cedar Rapids for an ICCAC series against Kirkwood. The series will open with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and wrap up with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at Noon.
