ANKENY - The Iowa Central men’s golf team finished sixth this weekend at the Viking Classic hosted by Grand View University at Briarwood Golf Course.
The Tritons shot a 611 on the weekend to take sixth place. Only three shots separated Iowa Central and Kirkwood (608) which finished fourth. Grand View won the meet with a 576. Matt Young led the Tritons with an eleventh place finish (151). He shot a 78 on Sunday and rallied for a 73 on Monday.
"The guys came right back this weekend and played another solid tournament,” said head coach David Barwin. “We were four-over through the front nine as a team on day one then gave some away on back nine, which was disappointing. On day two we focused on closing out and finishing the round and they did just that. These guys go after it and compete each time out. It is very exciting to watch them play."
Keegan Bak was tied for 17th with a 153 (76, 77), Ronnie Skoglund was 25th with a 155 (79, 76), Collin Cahill was tied for 34th with a 159 (81, 78) and Andrew Schlitz was tied for 41st with a 162 (74, 88).
The Iowa Central team is back in action on Thursday, April 5, for the DMACC Invite at Cedar Point Golf Club in Boone.
