Forsyth Central's 9th-ranked girls basketball team tasted sweet revenge by defeating No. 8-ranked Creekview 49-35 during Homecoming in the D.B. Carroll Complex.
Earlier in the season, the Bulldogs lost to Creekview 52-38 in Canton.
Central head coach Andy Martin was pleased with his team's performance the second time out against the Grizzlies, especially in the third quarter.
"[This win] feels good. They're right there with us at the top, they were ranked a spot ahead of us," Martin said. "And so to get that win and a little bit of that payback always feels good."
Coming out of halftime up 24-20, the Lady Bulldogs put on a defensive clinic in the third quarter, contesting shots and forcing turnovers for quick transition baskets.
Central outscored Creekview 16-4 in the period.
"We always talk about at the half, the score's 0-0. We want to win the first three minutes of every second half," said Martin. "I thought we came out defensively and really turned it up, that's what made the difference. "
Keeley Chester (10 points) helped get Central rolling after halftime by drawing a foul on a basket and hitting the ensuing free throw.
Christy Hewatt (18 points) later came up with a block that ended up in the hands of Kayla Richards (14 points), who took it coast to coast for the layup during a 10-0 run by Central in the quarter.
The momentum continued in the fourth, as the lead grew as large as 20, 46-26, with 3:34 remaining in the game.
"Defense won the game tonight, no doubt about it," said Martin. "And I've been waiting on that all year."
