Tough loss at Mounds View

By Jen Wagner of Forest Lake Girls Basketball

The Forest Lake Rangers suffered their first loss of the season at Mounds View Tuesday night. It was a hard fought game, with both teams making solid runs throughout. The Rangers were able to climb back in the second half after being down by 11 points, but ultimately too many mental errors led to a 58-56 Mustang victory.

JV continues on its impressive win streak to reach 6-0 on the season with a 51-25 win over Mounds View.  Kallie Welk poured in 11 points in the first half hitting three 3-pointers and Miranda Rice dominated the boards on both ends of the floor.  Abbie Moeller, Lindsay Tilton, and Sarah Jaeb continued in the second half with fast break opportunities and many nice drives to the basket.  Heather Lipp, Taylor Shortly, Chase Shortly, Ala Tyler, and Allie Buelow again were consistent in both halves of play and helped gain a 12 point half time lead and then winning the second half by 14 points.

Freshman vs. Mounds View

A first half defensive effort for the ages kept the 9th graders unbeaten on the season.  Three first half points were all the Mustangs could muster against the trapping and aggressiveness of the Rangers.  However - with only 18 points of their own, things got more interesting in the second half.  The shots continued to rim out for the Rangers in the second half but the effort persisted.  Becky Bloch led the Rangers with 12 points in the game and Maddy Halley grabbed 9 boards.  The Mustangs never stopped playing hard as they trimmed the lead down late in the game, but the Rangers leaned on their defense to secure a 32-18 victory.  The Freshman continue conference play next Tuesday against White Bear Lake.
