Forest Lake improves to 4-0!

December 7, 2012
By Jen Wagner of Forest Lake Girls Basketball

Forest Lake entered the week with three non-conference games continuing with an impressive win over North St. Paul on Thursday night 55-31. The home Polars struggled defensively to stop the visiting Rangers from using the inside game, steals and outside shooting to build a double digit lead early in the contest.  Forest Lake’s defensive was equally a challenge for the home team as they forced them to into longer possessions not allowing NSP to build any rhythm.  Coach Wagner uses her deep bench to keep fresh legs on the floor which has been troublesome for opposing team so far this season.   The Rangers finish the week with a home game against the Wildcats of Chisago Lakes and will celebrate parents night before the tip off of the varsity game.

JV progressed to 4-0 on the season last night with a win over North St Paul.  The team continues to show improvement and get contributions from the entire team.  Kallie Welk lead the attack scoring 14 points in the first half.  Chase Shortly, Abby Moeller, and Miranda Rice set the tone on defense by pressuring the ball and limiting the Polar's second chance opportunities.

The Forest Lake sophomore team wins its third straight game over North St. Paul 56-34 on Thursday night.  The Rangers have been slow out of the block this season and Thursday night was no exception.  Eight minutes into the first half the home Polars had a small lead of 8-2.  Then the Rangers exploded with an offensive attack led by Jessica Erickson’s 26 points and the aggressive full court pressure put on the Polars.  “Each game we improve our technique and sometimes after some game adjustments things just click”, Coach Keller said about the game.  The Rangers have four big picture goals for each game.  Score 40 points a game.  Keep the opponent to 30 points a game. Get to the free throw line 20 times a game.  And keep turnovers below 10 a game.  The 10,20,30,40 rule are the big things that led to last night’s victory.  Next up, Chisago Lakes at home Friday for parents night.
