On the road at Roseville

February 1, 2012
By Jen Wagner of Forest Lake Girls Basketball

Forest Lakes runs into a hot shooting Roseville team on Tuesday losing 54-39 at the home of the Raiders. Three point shots by the home team created a fast lead by the Raiders putting the Rangers in a deep hole early in the game which they would be challenged to overcome. Forest Lake made adjustments throughout the game and at half time to slow the offensive punch of Roseville in attempt to eat into the lead. Short runs using the inside game provided for opportunities to close the gap, but Roseville bounced right back to regain their sizable lead. Foul trouble sent Ranger starters to the bench, but strong reserve play by Angie Frericks and Rachel Bostrom kept the Rangers competitive. In the end, Roseville played an inspired game leading to a win over the Rangers. Next up, a return to the home court Friday for “pink night” against Cretin.

The Forest Lake JV squad played a tough Roseville team last night.  The Rangers were down throughout the entire first half due to tenacious Raider’s defense.  Roseville was ahead 19-16 going into halftime.  The Rangers picked up their defense in the second half and held Roseville to only 6 points.  Forest Lake triumphed over the Raiders 39-25.  A big offensive effort by Andie Wohlk contributed that victory with Wohlk putting in 13 points for the Rangers.

The Forest Lake sophomore team revenged an early season loss to Roseville with a win Tuesday night 20-8. Yes, that is correct, the Rangers held Roseville to only 8 points on Tuesday with a focused defense against the Raider’s top scorer. Led by freshman, Dana Larson, the Ranger defense using a combination of zone and man defenses holding Roseville to one shot on each possession or forcing them to turn over the ball. The Rangers started slow offensively in the first half, before finding enough offense to close out the game with a win.

January 31st, 2012 vs. White Bear Lake
All eleven (healthy) Rangers put up points in a 51-40 victory over the Bears from White Bear Lake. The freshmen continued their hot streak but needed a strong 2nd half to do so. Leading by only 2 points at the break - Katherine Watson got multiple buckets to start the second half on her way to 11 points for the game. Chase Shortly and Sara Trojanowski picked up the defensive slack in Emilie Antony's absence. Heather Lipp, Jessica Erickson, and Emma Abress each put in 8 points for the Rangers in an extremely balanced attack. The Bears kept it close - but the Forest Lake lineup of Tayler Erickson, Andi Forbord, Jessie Copt, Alex Rivas, and Cassie Schmidtke put the game out of reach. The freshman take to the road on Friday in another tough test against the Roseville Raiders. #family
